Edit Leeds gains contemporary city-centre base, Joel Spence appointed Chief Digital and Growth Officer

By Edit | 22 Jan 2020

We’re thrilled to announce our Leeds office has relocated to Leeds city centre from Thorpe Park Business Park as part of our ambitious 2020 growth plans across our Leeds, Bath and London offices.

You can now find Edit Leeds at No 1 Whitehall Riverside, a prime location just a five-minute walk from the Leeds railway station and boasting spectacular riverside views.

The new premises allow us to be better connected to our clients and staff across the Kin + Carta connective. In turn, this helps us continue to deliver exceptional results for clients, including Shell, Bank of Montreal, Vue Cinemas, and a premium automotive brand.

It’s an exciting time for Edit. We’ve seen continued growth in our financial services, travel and leisure, retail, and pharmaceuticals client portfolio, with recent wins including SunLife, Online Casinos, and Black Tomato.

Vibrant, bright, open

Our office redesign has allowed us to create a bright and open space that perfectly reflects how we like to work.

The vibrant layout, fitted out by Design Tonic, includes modern break-out areas and plenty of meeting rooms embedded with video call technology to facilitate collaborative working across locations and between Kin + Carta brands, ultimately allowing us to deliver even better work for our clients.

A key feature of our new premises is our ‘Editorium’, a Roman-inspired amphitheatre that enables us to easily gather for activities, get-togethers, and company updates. The bespoke space can also be used to host networking events and echoes the similarly featured Bath office’s Editorium.

Joel Spence takes the wheel as Chief Digital and Growth Officer

The move is just one of the ways we’re continuing to grow in 2020 and is further accelerated with the expansion of Joel Spence’s role to become Chief Digital and Growth Officer, now heading up the digital marketing division in Leeds.

“It’s a great honour to be invited to lead the digital business within Edit as well as growth for the wider business,” says Joel. “It’s a life-long ambition and one I am truly excited and energised by.

We have a fantastic future ahead. Our focus in 2020 is to continue to deliver incredible commercial results and great brand-building work for our clients. In addition, we want to build great new relationships with ambitious, growth-focused businesses, and to innovate our products to drive new value and improve operational effectiveness.

We have an enviable reputation in the industry and this office move will allow us to continue to attract the high-calibre talent that will drive Edit forward.”

Of course, with our growth plans comes a need to expand our team. Currently, we’re on the market for fresh faces in our SEO, sales and paid media teams. So, if Edit sounds like your kind of agency, head over to our careers page to find out more about our vacancies.

[Q+A]

We sat down with Joel to discuss the future of Edit Leeds and how the Leeds relocation will drive Edit’s performance in 2020 and beyond.

How and why do you think the Leeds city centre move is a prosperous choice for the business?

“A great business location is all about talent and culture and Leeds has bags of both. Leeds has become a thriving digital hub with some of the best talent in the world including some of the country’s best agencies as well as organisations with in-house digital hubs, such as Channel 4, Sky, Sky Bet, and BT.

What’s also important to recognise is the strength of higher education in the city. We are situated in one of the world’s best locations for emerging talent with Leeds City College investing heavily in digital, combined with the heritage of Leeds Beckett, The University of Leeds, and Leeds College of Art.

You don’t keep the people without the culture and Leeds city centre is one of the most vibrant in the country, with an abundance of lunch spots, restaurants, bars and pubs, shopping, museums, theatres and more. All of this provides a livelier environment for the team in Leeds, whether that’s popping out for lunch or after-work drinks.

Being a proud northerner, I love working in Leeds and think we have a very honest and down-to-earth approach to delivering great results for our clients.”

What does the office move mean for marketing and new business?

“Our new office is a fantastic networking space and includes an ‘Editorium’, which can be used for client workshops and events. The central location will enable clients to join us easily for events and talks. Having a new office just five minutes’ walk from Leeds railway station makes travel for our clients much easier.

Being a reputable agency means we have already been able to secure two new team members for the sales team which will allow us to deliver excellent client engagement. The calibre of candidates we attract is incredibly important and being in the centre means we can appeal to even more great employees.”

Any plans for the coming year for Edit?

“We have big plans for Edit in 2020. We will continue to invest in areas of growth, innovating our service areas and investing in top talent.

We continue to grow our collaboration with Kin + Carta, our parent company, delivering new product innovations and larger enterprise data transformation projects, as well as relationships with clients like Shell and a premium automotive brand, with whom we won three DMA (Data and Marketing Association) awards in 2019. It’s an exciting time for Edit and there is a huge drive towards innovation and growth, delivering world-class client work and results, and being a fantastic place to work.

Finally, we are continuing to work towards B-Corp accreditation, and working as a triple bottom line business that prioritises people, planet, and profit, and delivers a positive impact in the world.”
