On Friday, October 11 2024, twelve local businesses teed up at Minchinhampton Golf Course for Great Western Air Ambulance Charity‘s (GWAAC) first-ever corporate golf day. And we were delighted to sponsor the event!

The day brought together keen golfers from all over Gloucestershire, Bristol, Bath and beyond, all with one mission: raising funds to support GWAAC’s life-saving work.

On a perfectly sunny autumn day, twelve teams of four took on the par-71 Avening Course, set amidst the scenic Cotswold hills. The course had its fair share of tricky bunkers, lakes, and greens, but in the end, Team Naylor and Keyline came out on top, clinching the trophy!

Joe Allen, Naylor’s Contractor Development Manager, celebrated the win, saying: “It was a thoroughly enjoyable day, made even better by our victory. Many thanks to Great Western Air Ambulance Charity for hosting a great event!”

But it wasn’t just fun and fairways. The day raised over £8,500, enough to fund four potentially lifesaving missions!

After the round, players heard from Simon Clark, who shared his powerful story of how GWAAC helped him after a serious road accident. Fresh off a trek to Everest Base Camp, Simon’s story made it clear just how impactful every swing and putt was for the lives GWAAC touches.

Even the air ambulance itself made a cameo, buzzing overhead on a mission that reminded everyone of GWAAC’s vital role in the region. That day, the GWAAC crew was called out ten times – above their usual six-a-day average – reinforcing the vital work the charity does.

GWAAC Corporate Partnerships Manager, Joe Hughes, cheered on the crew and players alike, saying: “ Whilst the crew golf team on the ground would’ve loved to take home the trophy, everyone was a winner thanks to the teams who turned up to play.

“GWAAC is lucky to have such fantastic support from our region’s generous corporate community. A huge thanks to the teams who played and event sponsors Porsche Centre Tewskbury, Salocin Group, and Bishop Flemming. Here’s to an even bigger and better GWAAC Golf Day in 2025 (and hopefully a home-win for the crew too!).”

Ben Briggs, Managing Partner of Join the Dots, and winner of the Beat the Pro competition, wrapped it up: “We’re delighted to have supported Great Western Air Ambulance Charity as a bronze sponsor of their first corporate golf day. As a B Corp certified business, at Salocin Group we believe in giving back to the community and we’re proud to contribute to such a vital service that provides lifesaving care across our local region. This event was a fantastic opportunity to not only enjoy a great day of golf as a team, but to also make a meaningful impact in support of GWAAC’s critical mission.”
