A month of volunteering and fundraising at Wood for Trees

By Wood for Trees | 6 Oct 2022

In the last month, Wood for Trees has combined socialising with volunteering and fundraising by organising a team beach clean and pub quiz.

First up, we ventured to an extremely wet and windy Weston-Super-Mare, specifically Uphill Beach, to participate in a beach clean for the Marine Conservation Society. Eleven of us surveyed an 100m stretch of the beach, which at first sight appeared devoid of any litter, but we were somewhat surprised at just how much rubbish we managed to collect in a couple of hours – 452 items to be exact! See some of the team in action below (plus some furry friends)…

The below pie chart shows the vast majority of what we picked up was plastic (381 items) but there was also quite a bit of glass (20 items), metal (13 items) and cardboard (10 items), amongst other materials. Click here to see the full report.

In true Wood for Trees style, we ended our volunteering efforts with a well-earned pub lunch and a pint. And a couple of weeks later, we found ourselves back in a pub but this time for a charity quiz in aid of our charity of the year and long-standing client, Concern Worldwide.

Unfortunately, we were having too much fun to obtain photographic evidence of the evening, but we thoroughly enjoyed (and found it extremely difficult at times) answering rounds of historic, sporting and musical questions, all with a data and numerical theme of course, kindly put together by our quiz master Geoff and his assistant Bean. The team raised £140 from the evening for a very worthy cause.

Roll on the next team social/volunteering/fundraising event! Stay tuned to find out what we get up to next…
